These terms are stupid
They are used to describe storage in the physical context or some shit, never heard the term in my life but it’s come up twice in the last two weeks.
- Once for the Proxmox server
- Makes sense, what with it referring to physical storage that you’re trying to allocate to virtual machines
- Once downloading Eve Online
- It’s like they were worried that the act of downloading Eve itself didn’t designate you and everyone else involved and an irredeemable fuckless nerd. Nah nah, lets do the download in GiB so there’s not even the potential of shadow of a doubt.
Gibibyte is bad, is dumb, but it passes
Mebibyte is a self deprecating meme, it sounds like someone ironically mispronouncing megabyte for the purpose of making someone who knows what they’re doing feel bad.
Definitions below, fucking kill me.
Edit: I think the whole 1024-2048 shit we all know is actually Mebibytes so maybe its the correct one…
